If Carlsberg did wedding venues…
Le Petit Chateau wedding photography
– A Winter Wedding Wonderland, Northumberland
When you get an enquiry to photograph a Le Petit Chateau wedding then you cross all your fingers and hope the diary is empty, when it’s a Tuesday then you jump for joy, when you’re already in Northumberland for a Saturday wedding then woo hoo, when you Skype the couple and they’re as great as these two – well what more can we say :)
Snow, well it was still February!
Hmmm…so we looked out of the window in Alnwick to a blanket of snow and more falling. So we set off a few hours early and took the A roads, instead of the scenic route we’d been planning! It was only Monday though, so a day early for the big do – today was a mini legal ceremony and welcome party for the guests arriving. We got there in plenty of time and had a great evening shooting the pre-wedding party – as well as catching up with some of their friends who’s wedding we’d shot a few years ago, in a not so sunny Lancashire (our only bride to date who walked down the aisle in wellies – but that’s another story from another year) :)
Le Petit Chateau humanist ceremony
Dark and moody, gorgeous pockets of light and textures galore, Le Petit Chateau has photography dream written all over it. So the day began with the boys donning their dapper suits and cummerbund (interesting word fact, it literally means loin cloth!) and the girls preening and preping for the day ahead. A humanist ceremony had been decided upon so certain readings could be read and hand fasting also added. A truly personal ceremony which mean a lot to the stunning stars of the show. And in the setting of the ‘chapel’ adorned with huge blossom trees, it couldn’t have looked any better.
Pancake day wedding
If your wedding is pancake day and you’re at a venue renown for it’s crêperie then it’s not rocket science to go for crêpe canapés – logically after the group photos, so there we no crêpe stains to ruin the photos. Guests loved the venue as much as we did, the weather was even on the ball with sunshine for the drinks reception – it looked like July even if the temperature was close to zero. No worry on the temperature though this place has it all covered with loads of fire pits as well as the distinctive fire and fountain combo.

Everywhere at this Northumberland gem could make a fantastic image – we were literally spoilt for choice when it came to a few couple photos. A few quick cosy corners inside then a walk around the gardens ticked all the boxes. Still plenty of time to enjoy the party and those yummy crêpes – rhubarb crumble, chocolate brownie all the toppings sounded stunning.
Magic, cosy outdoor fire pits and a bit of a boogie
Into the night Le Petit Chateau carries on with it’s immense charm, character and distinct Mediterranean feel – simply a gorgeous wedding venue. Guests entertained by the magician with the slight of hand to fool everyone, especially the smaller folk who were amazed by everything in front of them. As the night fell the garden oozed that cosy laid back feel, with the firepits raging and the dance floor beckoning – not quite sure which had the greatest allure.
A few words from our amazing bride and groom….
“So glad we picked these guys to photograph our special day. They are very passionate about what they do, take great care and maintain high standards throughout all areas. As there are two, they cover so many more aspects of the day. In particular there was a beautiful contrast in the morning part when each of us were getting ready with our parties and how this was captured with such detail that wouldnt be possible with just one photographer. They work well individually and also collaboratively as a duo. We had a videographer on the day and the pixies worked brilliantly with him and communicated well as a trio to support each other in getting the best for us. Our images are fantastic and the guests we’ve shared them with, and folks who were unable to be there also, thought they were amazing too!
We’ve seen many local photographers capture images of our wedding venue and I have to say, the pixies images are unique and stand out.
Highly recommend for anyone looking for a great experience and beautiful, unique photographs!”
An absolutely amazing two days in this secret corner of Northumberland, with the most lovely of people, all happy to be there. And little did we know they’d be one of the very few 2020 weddings before the world went a little bit off kilter :/ Here’s to virus free days and more epic parties like these with all your favourite people….

Le Petit Chateau wedding venue
From an unassuming frontage lies a secret world in the backwaters of Northumberland, Otterburn village holds this very special secret paradise. If you’re looking for that magical feeling and a venue that has the wow factor without being too ostentatious then this might just be the one…if you’re willing to travel to the gorgeous countryside of the unspoilt county of Northumberland.
So now we’ve sold you, we don’t even work for the tourist board! Why is it so good and what do we like? For a start it’s very different and has that level of quirkiness whilst retaining an air of decorum, boutique hotel styling with exquisite gardens not out of place in Saint Tropez.
Lots of space indoors, as it is in Northumberland after all and not the sunny south coast of France, maybe the weather won’t be cracking the flags but your guests will feel transported to another land. A huge covered terrace complete with heaters and fire pits, cosy drinks around the fire are a must. Oh along with those delicious pancakes, did we mention those! Most wedding ceremonies take place in the chapel room, a Belle Epoque styled room with that rustic French feel, relaxed yet befitting of the days events.
As it’s a little off the beaten track then you’ll be looking for guests to stay over, well that’d just fine as the 29 rooms are all stunning too. Quirky detailing and the boutique style accommodation continues into the rooms, no boring white and standard issue furniture here. And even though it’s not city centre Otterburn has plenty more accommodation on the doorstep so all your wedding party can stay until last orders and roll back home with no problems at all.
We’d really love to join you for another Petit Chateau wedding adventure, cameras in hand to immortalise all that your day has in store for you both. It’s really such a gorgeous place that taking photos of your day is an absolute pleasure and we do love that dark and moody feel it so excels at in all it’s nooks and crannies. See you there :)
