Nic and Gav had never wanted to get married in that traditional (boring) way and when they did, they’d never thought they’d want a wedding photographer…but here we are! So we were super honoured that Nic had seen the essence of our documentary photography style and chosen us to capture their Kilnsey Park wedding, that as circumstances had turned out, meant so much to both of them and all their amazing family and friends.
A Kilnsey Park wedding celebration
So, given all that, how did we end up here in ‘sunny’ Yorkshire. Well Gav’s a Yorkshire man, from a few miles up t’ road, so that explains that bit. Why get married now…2019 is the start of this part of Nic and Gav’s amazing story. A million miles away in a tropical paradise which they called home, Borneo – can’t get more exotic than that, well obviously apart from Yorkshire ;) Living life to the max these guys were smashing it as scuba dive resort managers. Nic’s backache unfortunately turned into a diagnosis of stage four breast cancer – so bucket list time. Gav proposed just after Nic completed the Brave the Shave for Macmillan (absolutely rocking the super short hairstyle) and the rest as they say is history.
Kook Events and Star Gazing Ceremonies
Nic and Gav had a top team to make sure this wedding was completely epic and was befitting to their personalities. April from Kook events had everything in hand, even dashing out to the local garage for firelighters to light the firepits late into the evening. Louisa from Star Gazing ceremonies ensured that it was a wedding ceremony to remember – full of love, laughter and plenty of quirky mid-ceremony audience participation.
A Tropical Wedfest
So, in an ideal world swap Yorkshire with Bali. But hey nothing’s ideal and making the most of everything whilst enjoying the company of all your favourite people is all that really matters on your wedding day – well we think so anyway! So Tropical Yorkshire it was :) Tipi, tick – family & friends, tick – tropical foliage & a shed load of sunnies, tick – sunshine, erm well above the clouds then tick ;) So the outdoor ceremony was moved to inside the tipi, but as the sides were up it was almost outdoors, sort of. Oh and did we mention the ring bearer? No. That’ll be the Shetland pony waiting in the wings – a tongue in cheek nod to Gav’s family race horse training business! Oh and the bubble gun toating flower girls with a pirate twist – as obviously Nic was a pirate mermaid too, amongst her many other qualities.
Fizz, friends, fun
What else do you need? I do’s done, fizz well and truly flowing. Time to catch up with friends from near and far and those that couldn’t make it, plenty of whom watched via video link from far flung corners of the world and sent their congrats through the magic of technology – that even worked in Yorkshire. After speeches and yummy laid back nosh, just time for a wander by the river with Nic & Gav for some couple pics before the next cloud of ‘tropical’ rain arrived.
Party like it’s 1999
And that’s what they did! We love a confetti cannon first dance, makes it all so much more epic. Dance floor full, chilled out moods around the campfire, glitter station well and truly appreciated, live music, sheep bleating (it is Yorkshire!) – what more could you ask for.
Huge congrats to Nic & Gav, a fantastic celebration of all that is just them. Massive amounts of positive vibes for the future and that science, medicine and a little bit of magic can keep the Nic (and Gav of course!) on this ball of mud for as long as possible, to make the world a smilier place :)
Nic supports Metupuk & Coppafeel. MetupUK, is a fantastic organisations supporting and providing advocacy for those with metastatic breast cancers (both men and women). We’d not heard of it before but it certainly packs a punch, scary stats, but also positive stories of how with access to the best medications even a terminal diagnosis can mean many many more years of a life lived and memories made. Coppafeel, well it’s just that promoting regular checks of boobs – give it a go, it could save your life! If anyone would like to donate or indeed has friends or colleagues who could benefit from their support you can find all the info here: https://metupuk.org.uk and https://coppafeel.org
