A Tuscan wedding at Villa Tolomei in the hills above the gorgeous city of Florence, Italy.

Katie and Gavin contacted us back in the winter of 2018 when they had just booked their stunning venue at Villa Tolomei. Gavin had never been to Florence and neither of them had seen the venue! If they were crazy/laid back enough to do that then they were definitely our kind of people and well who doesn’t want to spend a few days in the Tuscan spring sun. Fast forward to 2019 and it was time to pack our bags and head into the clouds, over the Alps and off to Firenze.

A mini pre-shoot in Florence

Katie & Gavin were keen to have that look of Florence in their images from the day, quite naturally as they’d gone all that way to tie the knot. However wedding days go so fast, no matter where in the world you are time just doesn’t stand still…So we all decided that the evening before the big day we could grab those quintessentially iconic Florentine vistas. A quick dash around the city before these guys headed off for a night on the town with their friends. Red rooves and domes, everyone’s vision of Florence and that box is certainly ticked when you take in the views from Piazza Michelangelo (and it had stopped raining!) With the distant Duomo calling we took a wander to the river Arno and the iconic Ponte Vecchio. Followed by a short hop by taxi to the magnificent Duomo of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. Florence’s main hot spots covered all before the big day and still time for Katie and Gavin to catch a pizza before their last mini hen and stag do’s.

Villa Tolomei wedding venue

The big day had arrived and the sun had finally come back out after a few days of plenty of the wet stuff, but it had made everywhere look all the more lush and green. Arriving to Villa Tolomei is quite the Tuscan idyll. A driveway lined with Italian Cypress leading to the white washed Florentine villa. The girls were already in pampering stages whilst the boys naturally grabbed a few beers under the pergola. Katie and her mum had done absolutely everything themselves. All bases covered, with a job for everyone under the watchful eye of Katie’s mum. So, tree draped, chair’s adorned with their lace covers and confetti ready to throw it was all set for an outdoor ceremony under the big old tree. A watchful eye on the weather, as rain had been forecast but this was an English wedding and who believes the forecast anyway!

Wisteria and olive cellar drinks a Tuscan reception

Vows shared, corks popped, canapés galore and a downpour! April showers seemed to have moved from the UK to Italy this Spring. Whatever the weather everyone enjoyed the amazing Tuscan countryside views from beneath the wisteria terrace, whilst Gavin also got to use his favourite part of the venue – the historic olive press cellars. Time for drinks and natter with family and friends. Then a few moments alone for some iconic Italian landscapes (and a bit of mud!) while we clicked away to capture Katie & Gavin just having a laugh together. As day turned to night, amazing food and wine flowed from the kitchen. A huge Italian meringue cake, an amazing sunset and dancing the night away to the epic toons from Ed on the decks.

Katie and Gavin had most definitely got the Tuscan wedding dream. A day to remember surrounded by all their favourite people – congrats guys on organising such a stunner :) Our first destination wedding of 2019, and we can’t wait to get back to Florence again soon…..
