Your wedding day as it happens, completely naturally, no stopping just your party immortalised – Documentary wedding photography.
“The photos we’ve received all capture the love and joy of our day and they are even better than we had hoped for…..BRILLIANT and really quite emotional! On the day we hardly even knew they were there, and yet the images captured are so intimate, fun and lovely. We would recommend The Pixies for your wedding in a heartbeat!”
Sarah & Jamie are media types who met in London and had made the move up to Salford with the BBC :) So they knew what it was to be in front of the camera and they knew they didn’t want to stop their wedding day for anything, so the day was completely documentary wedding photography. No posing at all, no ‘just stop there’, no time-out for bride and groom pics – just these two with all their favourite people enjoying their wedding day in Manchester.
Manchester wedding preparations
Sarah and co. had bagsied their cool urban city centre flat for the morning prep whilst Jamie and his crew were at the classic grand hotel of Manchester, The Midland. So Pete and myself were busy snapping away in separate corners of Manchester, taking in the action and anticipation of the day ahead. With the boys ready for action time for that classic walk across town from the Midland Hotel to their church venue in St.Ann’s Square. This was one of the hottest days of summer, so the groomsmen deemed it time for a quick McFlurry at the church doors :) Whilst Sarah made her exit via the amazing hallway atrium of their apartment building, arriving to the crowds that always flock around a city centre wedding.
Manchester Church wedding ceremony
The pews of St.Ann’s church filled with family & friends from near and far. St. Ann’s is one of those churches where there’s no photography allowed from the front of the church, but with two of us, we could cover the ceremony without moving and still get some great angles to tell the photographic story of the day. That’s despite of the strange spot lighting they have too, just to add an extra dimension to the shooting challenge!
Albert Square Chop House wedding reception
Congrats, confetti, and a saunter up King Street to Albert Square Chop house for the rest of the day’s partying to begin. An amazing space for atmospheric documentary imagery alongside the iconic Manchester Northern theme running through the decor. With TV presenters amongst the four best even the speeches were bound to be a slick polished affair and so it was :) Into the night Sarah’s running club friends arrived and injected a definite pulse of energy and blow-up friend for good measure.
We absolutely loved shooting in a completely documentary style for Sarah & Jamie’s Manchester wedding day, no family groups, no couple photos, just friends and family enjoying a fantastic day – the day just as they wanted :)
So you say what’s this, well it’s the moment when Sarah & Jamie just happened to be waiting to enter the wedding breakfast. They just stood there chatting and what were we meant to do with such gorgeous light, but a ‘Pixie’ style portrait but not – you see it’s all natural and a documentary moment, with some Pixie lighting ;)
