Thwaite Mills is one of those secret places which is just amazing! We were so happy that Georgina and Steve booked Pixies in the Cellar to shoot their festival style wedding at this one of we think Yorkshires top wedding venues :) Yay! So here’s how their fantastic wedding day went….
So it began with thunder and lightening
After a week of scorchio weather, it was now bank holiday weekend so time for the weather to break! Fortunately we were on the normally sunnier side of the Pennines in the trendy city of Leeds but as we parked the car the sky lit up, thunder bellowed and we ran to George and Steve’s flat under our trusty brolly! Inside the girls were all enjoying the pampering treat of bridal prep with amazing hair styling and make-up befitting of the day ahead. Georgina was quite nervous of being photographed during prep. It isn’t that normal to have photographers shooting your every move but at the end of the day she commented how easy it was just to ignore us and enjoy the morning. Yeah! Invisbility mission accomplished :)
Ready for a day at t’Mill
Thwaite Mills, is a stunning working watermill and museum surrounded by green on the edge of the Aire and Calder canal, just minutes from Leeds city centre. Well it ticked all the boxes for us. Quirky wedding venue, grungy mill (loads of texture!) and green space too for a tipi wedding reception. Everything was decorated with colourful DIY decorations from pallets to bunting to pom-poms to origami cranes to the all important home brews. Steve and George had definitely added a personal touch to their wedding day, which is what it’s all about. The ceremony began with all the boys in tears as Steve’s dad sang Georgina down the aisle. The personal touches continued throughout the humanist ceremony, whilst the heavens opened outside.
Sun and Steel Strum
Time to party! Straight out of their ceremony, time to celebrate with a dance or two or three or more! Steel Strum were the epic soundtrack and entertainment for the drinks reception – amazing band! Just before the green field part of the day began it was time for some industrial heritage in and around Thwaite Mills. Unique wedding quote of the day “that’s the biggest spanner I’ve ever seen!” followed by Steve being covered in oil from said huge spanner ;)
Tipi wedding photography finale to an epic wedding celebration
Food, fun and festivities continued with the afternoon under the canvas of their double hat tipi, for a very relaxed wedding reception. Mexican street food, added to their festival styled wedding party. Into the night George’s dad started proceedings with a vinyl DJ set, followed by more DJ sets from many of their amazing friends. As the night drew in it was time for us to leave, we did sneak in a quick photo and few slices of pizza for the road though!
Huge congrats to Steve & Georgina on an amazing fun, music and love filled personalised wedding day to remember.
