West Mill wedding photography, a winter wedding – Derby, UK
Our second visit for a West Mill wedding this year, weh hey :) We love The West Mill, one of our new fave venues :) So this time it’s winter, a bit of a contrast to the Spring wedding back in May, but this venue is perfect for winter with so much space indoors your guests never feel claustrophobic or stuck in one room.
We met Nicci & Tom back in October when they were finalising bits and pieces for their wedding day at West Mill. Having met these two we knew it would be a fantastic wedding, they are sooooo laid back and chilled out. They loved the warehouse industrial feel of The West Mill, just perfect for a winter wedding on nearly the shortest day of the year.
So the day begins….
We set out early doors to meet Tom and his crew getting ready at The Farmhouse at Mackworth, a super pub that had just the right level of cosy charm for a winter get away. So Tom had an identical twin James, who would wear a tie whilst Tom would be with bowtie, but this doesn’t help before they’ve got ready! Fortunately there was just enough difference between them that I managed to decipher groom from his brother! Most of the wedding party were staying at the pub, so everyone gathered in their finery before making the obligatory stop at The Abbey Inn, just a short walk from The West Mill. The Abbey is a hidden gem. You could be forgiven for not even noticing this inauspicious pub, a very cosy moody interior – again the perfect accompnaiment to a winter wedding.
At The West Mill
Whilst I’d been touring pubs of Derby (!) Pete had been having a relaxing morning with the girls in the dedicated bridal prep room at The West Mill. Nicci, as expected was very calm cool and collected. Rodney the dog was mostly well behaved, except for when he saw children, which was a little problem as Charlie their nephew was meant to walk him down the aisle!
Surprise Singing Waiters steal the show!
After much fizz, canapes and chit chat it was time for some food, as is the way with a wedding day :) In between courses we hung back in the doorway so as not to spoil the surprise of the amazing singing waiters. These guys were great and really got the party started, although a tough act to follow for Nicci’s dad starting off the speeches. Into the evening the party continued to the tones of their wedding band Ruby & the Rhythms. As Tom and the boys nipped out for their wedding cigars we snook in a couple of last minute photos to make the most of the mill, in it’s night time guise.
Congrats to Nicci & Tom on a fantastic West Mill wedding, with amazing family, friends and Rodney the dog too
