A New Years Eve Wedding for Katie & Tom – Mitton Hall Winter Wedding Photography
Tom & Katie had chosen winter as their preferred time of year to celebrate their wedding, then stumbling upon Mitton Hall their minds were made up – such an ideal venue for that cosy winter feel. A marriage that was a few years in the making after having met initially at college then going their separate ways until the two collided again when the sparks flew!
Our inaugural Mitton Hall wedding photography experience!
This was our first wedding at Mitton Hall, so we’d been a few weeks before to check out the location, light and possibilities for photography and also met up with Michael the wedding co-ordinator/manager who was incredibly helpful both before and during the wedding :) Thanks Michael! On our recce we scouted out places for all kinds of weather and light or lack of it, Mitton Hall certainly doesn’t disappoint with it’s rich dark interiors adorned with sparkle at this time of year too coupled with dramatic landscpaes to the rear of the hotel, perfect for wedding photography whatever the season. We’re back there in June for a fantastic summer wedding so looking forward to seeing everything in a fresh summer light too!
On the day all was calm, the girls and flower girls all getting ready upstairs with the excitement building as the time ticked by. In the boys camp there was a fair bit of last minute ironing and the need for mum’s to attach button holes but in the end everyone got there and the stage was set for a wedding to begin.
Delivery of wedding rings by cute flower girl and ikea snake – that’s a first.
Tom’s daughter and flower girl was the official ring bearer, much cuter than a best man!! and did a fantastic job of delivering the rings on the very toy snake that Tom had proposed with. With an early ceremony we just had time for a wander through the grounds as the new Mr & Mrs wanted to capture some of the surrounding countryside in their images. Katie had very wisely brought a cosy tartan shawl to keep out that late December chill, it added a great celtic winter feel to the pictures too :) Back with family and friends we managed to use what was left of the light for a few group shots, so in years to time they can look back and see who’s who!
Into the evening the rain came down a little but not so much as in the previous week where Whalley had been flooded, the best man had arrived with snorkel just in case everywhere was still underwater! As the day turned into night Live Lounge duo, who’d been providing chilled out vibes all day ramped up the volume and tempo to get the wedding party started :)
Mitton Hall winter wedding photography, dream location.
Mitton Hall was the ideal location for the best winter wedding photography, with rolling Lancashire landscapes and those dark rich interiors, we really loved capturing the essence and emotion of Tom & Katie’s big day :) Looking forward to being back at Mitton Hall again in June, July & September this year, for a greener and brighter take on this top Lancashire wedding venue.

Mitton Hall is just the perfect venue for our photography – plenty of outdoor space for outdoor mingling on the terrace or lawns but those fab dark moody tones indoors too (even on the brightest day!) There’s so much we love about his venue, the small wooded glade outside, can’t beat a few trees – sumptuous rooms for getting ready and chilling out before your ceremony – that amazing rich dark historic hall with it’s characteristic chandelier and a fab huge party room to really let your hair down at the end of a great wedding day.
Since 2015 we’ve shot at Mitton Hall numerous times, in all weathers with all sorts of couples, from a full on goth wedding to classic black tie events. It’s a wedding venue that ticks so many boxes that it’ll suit your wedding day plans no matter what. Planning an intimate wedding then make the most of the moody interiors with private dining and a ceremony in one of the many amazing oak panelled rooms. Like it light and bright, well that’s covered too with the stunning conservatory where you can hold both your ceremony and late night party looking out over the Lancashire countryside below. Want a quirky touch then why not hire the Bowland Bus, plenty of space for it to pull up right outside the ceremony room and your guests to sample the local ales.
Run by the James Places group these guys know a thing or two about how to organise your wedding day without a hitch, so you’re in safe hands. Mitton Hall is so easy to find too, so no lost guests – just off the main road with plenty of space to park too. Being in the very green and lush Ribble Valley then there’s plenty of opportunity to make a weekend of it, so your guests get a mini holiday too. Loads of great shops and pubs in Whalley to mooch around then sample a local brew.
