The rather rainy autumnal Welsh wedding of Yvette & Jamie. Red Welly or Ty Coch is a cluster of cute self catering cottages with their very own private pebble beach, on the North Wales coast just beyond Caernarfon – it’s just perfect!
Yvette & Jamie wanted a no fuss, down to earth wedding, that reflected their own characters. So in simple terms, they tie the knot and have a great party with friends and family in an amazing location, so we were there to document their Red Welly wedding photography moments as they happen, as a reminder for that grey mater as the years pass by. We had ventured over for a day out in Wales a week or so before and seen it in all it’s resplendent sunny glory, today was a little different more of it’s wild side revealed but no less gorgeous – just muddier!
It’s all in the preparation
These guys had been in Wales since Thursday and all the family had mucked in to create a wedding weekend to remember. Yvette had seen many a wedding as a florist herself, so knew the ins and outs and also was obviously doing her own flowers for the day too. Friday had been a flurry of activity decorating the marquee yurt tent combo thingy and the medieval hall at Penarth Fawr where the legal formalities were to take place. So now the day had arrived, it was pretty much sit back get pampered and enjoy yourselves – apart from a few finishing touches from mum’s and dad’s – oh and having a bridesmaid as a florist also helps in finishing the final touches to the bouquets and button holes :)

So a short ride and almost on the south coast of the North coast of Wales, close to Criccieth is the Medieval Hall of Penarth Fawr with links back to Henry the 8th this place oozes history in a simple understated way. The guests arrived under brollies and coats, whilst Yvette and her dad had a more classic, if somewhat cosy journey in the classic 1950’s Porsche Speedstar :) A very personal wedding ceremony, with live music from their friends perched on the mezzanine and lots of love all around, this was the perfect setting for a rustic wedding day. With a small break in the weather just time for congrats, confetti and chatter to fill this corner of the Welsh countryside.
Red Welly wedding reception
Back at wedding HQ and the three sectioned yurt style marquee came into it’s own providing much needed shelter from the wet stuff. We took a very quick walk to the beach, for those Red Welly wedding photography moments, along with the very important Elsa, their dog. With new shoe woes, rain and wind all conspiring against us we all headed back to the shelter of the tent and the call of the canapés. Pie and mash wafting through the air, chilled out vibes and a definite relaxed feel filled the evening.
So does it matter if it rains on your Red Welly wedding day? Not a jot :) These guys embraced all that their day had and the day was so much better for it. Muddy dress, chilled out bride, forward thinking with a rather gorgeous tweed jacket for the evening too. Yvette and Jamie’s day was about them and their great unassuming characters coming together as Mr & Mrs, the perfect union of florist and botanist – in fact you need rain for all plants to grow so I guess it was quite apt really.
